INTRO

This began life five and a half years ago as a single page of recommendations for my first visitor and has been added to with every friend who’s dropped by since.

It starts with an overview of the geography (which honestly will be really useful - it sounds boring but the city will make a lot more sense if you drag yourself through it first - trust me) before getting into specific places to go and see (and a suburb guide), then things to do (museums, big art galleries, Disneyland, etc.), then some hotel advice, then finally some meditations on those cultural issues you were too shy to ask about.

The format is a work in progress, and many aspects are a hangover from the original structure of a private google doc written for close friends. I feel there’s a certain gormless charm to the style and have resisted carving it out entirely. I’m also lazy. As the most likely audience remains close friends, please forgive the incredible obnoxiousness of my insider offers. And unless you are my friend, no you can’t sleep on my couch.
